Healthy Living Guide: Salt Lake City

This week, we’re heading out West to explore the beautiful capital city of Utah, Salt Lake City! Nestled in the Salt Lake Valley, Salt Lake City is surrounded by the Great Salt Lake to the Northwest and the majestic Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges to the East and West. Needless to say, with so much natural beauty, Salt Lake City residents lead a very active outdoor lifestyle! Healthy eating is also a big part of the Salt Lake lifestyle, with organic, farm-to-table, and vegetarian restaurants popping up across the city.

This cozy farm-to-table restaurant is a local favorite. Pago is part of RSA, Restaurant Supported Agriculture, which allows them to source their produce from local farms.  The menu features a delicious assortment of American fare. Be sure to make a reservation because the tables fill up quickly!

This vegetarian restaurant was named City Weekly’s Best of Utah award for “Best Vegetarian” eight years in a row! And it’s no wonder. Sage Café features a wonderful menu of vegetarian options, many of which are vegan and raw as well.

Omar’s Rawtopia is the only raw, organic, and vegan restaurant in Utah. The head chef and owner, Omar Abou-Ismail, strives to create meals that are good for the mind, body and spirit of his customers. Stop in for a raw nut burger, a hummus platter, or one of their delicious salads!

The Oasis is dedicated to serving fresh, never processed meals for vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters alike. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch with friends. Try the Mushroom Reuben – we love it!

Em’s is a charming little restaurant located in Salt Lake’s historic Marmalade Hill neighborhood.  The chefs at Em’s use only the freshest local and organic ingredients to prepare dishes on their ever-changing seasonal menu. The interior of the restaurant is comfortable and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a dinner date or lunch with friends.

This vegetarian diner is one of the best in Salt Lake City! They serve fresh, organic meals, many of which are vegan, and some raw as well.  Vertical also sells organic and fair-trade coffee, tea and cocoa.

Organic Manic is the newest healthy addition to the Salt Lake City culinary scene. This restaurant is just outside of The University of Utah campus and features an organic and mostly raw menu!

This all-natural, organic restaurant is a great choice for a healthy lunch, especially in the summer when you can enjoy the warm weather on the front patio. Make sure to check out Vasuvios’ Facebook page to see the daily specials and menu additions.

This beautiful restaurant provides a uniquely upscale and healthy dining experience in Salt Lake City. The chefs use the best local ingredients to create modern, imaginative dishes. This is an excellent spot for a celebratory dinner!

This locally owned and operated neighborhood restaurant is a Salt Lake City favorite. They believe in “serving food simply with an emphasis on healthy eating.” The menu consists of small plates, fresh seafood, and locally sourced meat and produce. They also have several vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Parks and Fitness

This 58-acre natural area is located between North and South Salt Lake City. Visitors can enjoy several hiking trails, wildlife habitats, and spectacular valley views.

The largest park in the Utah metropolitan area, this park offers several recreational activities including tennis, a boating pond, playground, and swimming pool.
