6 Unexpected Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
The benefit of including Apple Cider Vinegar in your diet, and even in your beauty routine, is no secret. This fermented superfood is jam-packed with gut-healthy bacteria and enzymes that help maintain a healthy pH balance in your digestive system. It’s also something of a cure-all when it comes to just about everything else! Use it as a toner to prevent breakouts, add it to your bath water to ease the discomfort of a sunburn, or take a mid afternoon shot of ACV to increase your energy.
Just because ACV is so good for your health, it doesn’t mean it should taste like medicine! Apple cider vinegar has a place in the culinary world too, and if you use it right, it can be not only nutritious but also delicious! If you’re looking for new and tasty ways to include this healthy vinegar in your diet, try some of these 6 recipe ideas:
Salad Dressing: This is one of the most common, and possibly most delicious, ways to use apple cider vinegar. Just mix it with olive oil, salt, pepper, and fresh herbs for a light and tangy vinaigrette, or try this recipe for a delicious honey mustard kick!
Meat Marinade: Spring is in the air, and with it comes my craving for a sizzling steak straight off the BBQ! If you eat meat, and you’re as ready to fire up the grill as I am, then give this apple cider vinegar marinade a try. Marinades are great because they infuse flavor throughout and tenderize the meat, and this favorite of mine really lets the ACV flavor shine though.
Roasted Vegetable Seasoning: Roasted vegetables, especially root vegetables like sweet potatoes, parsnips, and carrots, is such an easy and delicious side dish. A sprinkle of ACV with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil is all you need for perfectly seasoned roasted vegetables. Just heat the oven to 400°F and toss the vegetables in the seasoning before roasting for 30 to 40 minutes.
Refreshing Lemonade: The thought of drinking apple cider vinegar might make your lips pucker, but it doesn’t have to! Try adding a tablespoon of ACV to cold water with a squeeze of fresh lemon, some honey, and a sprinkle of cayenne for a perfectly refreshing spicy lemonade drink. If you want even more flavor, try this recipe.
Popcorn Topper: I’m a big fan of stovetop popcorn, not only because it is much healthier than microwave popcorn (in fact it doesn’t even compare!), but also because you have so much freedom to flavor it however you like. One option is to sprinkle apple cider vinegar over your popped corn. It adds so much flavor, you don’t even need to add salt!
Sandwich Spread: Ditch the unhealthy mayo and top your turkey sandwich with a dash of apple cider vinegar instead. It does everything you want mayo to do: add moisture, soften the bread, and increase the flavor. Before you know it, your new favorite sandwich condiment will be ACV!
