I was first introduced to turmeric my sophomore year of college. Each morning my roommate Nupur would pour a heaping spoonful of the yellow mystery powder into a glass of water, scrunch up her face, and chug the concoction in two gulps.

She explained to me that the spice contained a ton of nutritional benefits and that her grandmother combined the spice with warm milk every morning for her mother and her mother did the same for her.
