Sometimes you have to let yourself dream and get inspired by the world around you to make big strides in your own life. To me, thumbing through my favorite novel, writing down powerful words of great advice from a friend, or even listening to a replay of an inspiring speech is often all I need to get moving again. Collecting these little tokens of motivation wherever you go is a great way to get geared up for chasing a dream.

For all those big dreamer types, you know it’s easy to get wrapped up in an idea without actually acting on the sparks of inspiration. But these sparks are often the catalyst to a more meaningful life. Whatever it is that’s holding you back from realizing your dreams—self-doubt, fear of making a mistake, lack of clarity—know that you can override any negativity if you have a connection with what ultimately inspires and uplifts you.

A simple, accessible, and surprisingly powerful way to maintain this connection is through inspirational quotes. They may be just the gentle push you need to get back into action mode. To help you deepen your faith in your potential to achieve greatness, below are some of my favorite insights from people who made their dreams into realities. If one particularly speaks to you, write it on your wall, or thread it into your morning mantra, or keep it on a slip of paper in your wallet. The right words have the power to provide you with constant inspiration to fuel your aspirations and nourish your mind.

“I’ve learned that our background and circumstance may influence who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.” -actress Lupita Nyong’o

“You've got to think about big things while you're doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.” –writer Alvin Toffler

"Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”spiritual leader Dalai Lama

“You get as many chances as you want; as many as you dare to make for yourself.” -writer Edward Bloor

“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” -author and Nobel Prize laureate William Faulkner

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” - Mother Teresa

“If people aren’t calling you crazy, you aren’t thinking big enough.” –entrepreneur Richard Branson
