Spiced Apple Crisp Is the Perfect End to an Autumn Meal

The final winner of our apple recipe contest was Diane Hoch, who submitted this delicious recipe for spiced apple and cranberry crisp!

This recipe is the perfect fall dessert. Not too sweet, but full of warm, fall flavors that are sure to satisfy on these chilly autumn nights. The best part? It’s gluten-free and vegan so everyone, even those with dietary restrictions, can enjoy this perfect dessert!

  

Spiced Apple & Cranberry Crisp

Ingredients:

8 cups apples, peeled, cored and segmented

1 cup water

2 tablespoons of arrow root starch

1/3 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup cranberries

Topping

1/2 cup gluten-free old fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cloves

1 tablespoon cinnamon

3 tablespoons coconut flour

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium saucepan add water and heat. When water is warm, whisk in arrow root starch until dissolved. Add maple syrup and cranberries and bring to a low boil. Cook until reduced by half.
  • In a medium bowl add rolled oats, brown sugar, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, coconut flour and melted coconut oil and mix to combine.
  • In a glass baking dish, add the apples. Pour maple syrup and cranberry reduction over the apples and toss to coat. Sprinkle oat mixture on top of apples and place in oven. Bake for 35 minutes.
